When the grass starts to look really green in the Spring,
the bluebonnets bloom.
Overnight
or so it seems
there are millions of bright blue flowers
blanketing the fields, medians, back roads, and highways.
At the first bluebonnet sighting,
I immediately start scouting locations
where I could possibly
safely
pull over
and take pictures of the kids
in the bluebonnets –
it’s a Texas tradition.
From the end of March through April,
people will be stopped on the road sides,
taking pictures of their loved ones
in the masses of blooming Texas state flowers.
I mentally look over my jam-packed calendar
(because it’s that time of year
for piano recitals,
dance auditions,
Spring Break,
livestock shows,
dance recital,
New York fundraisers,
choir musical,
piano guild,
AWANA awards,
soccer games,
etc.)
and take inventory of appropriate clothing,
determine the best time of day,
and basically
plan
and
procrastinate
until the blooming season is
almost over
and
the grass has grown up
to almost hide the fading bluebonnets.
Then I make everyone put on white shirts,
(how can my boys not have plain white shirts??
They ended up wearing red this year.)
grab my camera,
and a stool
and
desperately cram in
a photo session
with my kiddos
before the flowers are
completely gone
for another year.
{The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8}
We lived in San Antonio for 15 years, I can so relate to the hunt for the perfect spot for that traditional shot of the kids in the bluebonnets. Miss that....

You took a wonderful shot of your kiddos. I think the red looks prety good against the girls. They have GROWN UP. Egadsm where'd the time go???
P.S. We found a wonderful spot just outside of Chappell Hill to snap our pics. Maybe try there next Spring? I know all about THE PLANNING that goes on beforehand just to get that one good pose. :)
